Product Description

The Modern Blackbird range offers a flowing ride for the savviest of surfer, and our X-2 bamboo construction produces a light, durable surfboard with extra strength on the deck.

OUTLINE: Classified as a fun shape, the outline is full and generous from nose to tail providing maximum stability on small to medium size waves. The rounded nose keeps the area up front and allows the rider to comfortably shift their weight forward. The slight taper through the tail lets you manoeuvre the board with ease.

ROCKER: Low-to-moderate rocker makes this board paddle onto waves really well, accelerate from the take off with minimal effort, and make flowing turns on the face of the wave.

CONTOURS: Vee-to-double concave bottom makes for easy rail-to-rail transitions, and offers control when driving off the tail.

FOIL: Designed with plenty of volume in the nose and tail, and out towards the rails, which provides added stability and makes this board simple to ride regardless of your skill level.

FINS: The 7’0 and 7’6 models are set up as a thruster to really maximize maneuverability, while the larger sizes, 8’0 and 9’1 come with a single box fin setup plus two side FCS fins for a more controlled feel.

The Blackbird has a bigger ‘sweet spot’ compared to other funboards on the market. This is a reliable board that will remain in your quiver for years.

X2 Epoxy

X-2 Epoxy is a multi-layered sandwich construction using epoxy resin, woven fiberglass and sheets of thin wood veneer wrapped around a Nanoweld EPS core. This construction method produces a light, extremely durable surfboard that's particularly strong on the deck.

The durability and strength of X-2 Epoxy boards make them ideal for SUP's, surfers who like to travel, and heavy beach break conditions where other boards are prone to breaking. X-2 Epoxy boards feel solid under your feet and can take an absolute beating while maintaining their appearance for many years.

  1. 1 out of 5 Blackbird X2 9'1"

Finally got out on a clean 3 to 4′ offshore day. Board rode great. Changed up the fins to find the right combo. Board caught waves real easy and turned on a dime. Everyone in the water wanted to try it out. The best fin combo for me was a 7.5″ center fin with two small side fins. Looking forward to trying bigger waves. Thanks guys/gals for a good board so far

Hi Clark – can I just check you intended to rate this board 1/5? I only as because the tone of your review sounded more positive.

  2. 5 out of 5 10 days in Kauai on my new Modern Blackbird 7'

Just spent 10 days in Kauai on my new Modern Blackbird 7′ board. Absolutely loved it. I have always owned short boards, but since I knew a few places I would be surfing on both the North and South shore of Kauai would be a better fit for a “funboard” size, I brought it along. Loved the maneuverability on the 4-5 ft swells, and still had fun on some smaller waves. Easier to turn than most of the 7 foot boards I had tried the last few months when I had some demos. Got some great compliments from people in the water about the appearance of the board too.
