The Mega Magic 2 in X2 Construction is an updated version of the Mega Magic. The Mega Magic has become one of best selling Walden surfboard designs ever, it shares the design aspects of the Magic Model but with added volume. This board has become so popular because its increased volume allows a rider to move to a shorter board while maintaining stability and float, yet it still manoeuvres with all the performance of the Original Magic Model.

Product Description

The Mega Magic 2 in X2 Construction is an updated version of the Mega Magic. The Mega Magic has become one of best selling Walden surfboard designs ever, it shares the design aspects of the Magic Model but with added volume. This board has become so popular because its increased volume allows a rider to move to a shorter board while maintaining stability and float, yet it still manoeuvres with all the performance of the Original Magic Model.

Volume is taken from the length and redistributed to the width and thickness which provides excellent float and stability while still maintaining the famous Magic Model performance. The Mega is about 1/2-1″ thicker and 1-2″ wider than a standard Magic Model. The Mega Magic will float like a board that is 12-18″ longer. For the bigger guy that normally rides a 10’0, with the Mega he can ride a 9’0 without giving up float or stability.

The Mega Magic 2 nose has been slightly pulled in – still excellent for nose riding, but the narrower nose will also perform better for more top to bottom riding. We took out the step deck for a smoother transition from deck to rail creating a thinner rail for more sensitivity, feel and control.

Our super durable X2 construction makes this model the perfect travel companion for surfers needing a board that will perform to high standards and also withstand some tough treatment.

We Introduced FCSII fin boxes to the whole line up, snap in fins allow more versatility of fin selection on the fly.

Technical Information

Construction X2 Epoxy Construction

This construction is used exclusively in the NSP and Surf Series programs. It focuses on making the surfboard a durable as possible. The EPS core is reinforced with Fiberglass and then a top sheet of Top Sheet is added to enhance the overall strength of the board. All the layers are fused together using a special epoxy resin that helps to create what we think is the most durable performance orientated Surfboard construction available on the market globally right now.

I bought the 9‘6 and surfed it at Ocean Beach, Linda Mar/Pacifica and West-Algarve/Portugal lately.
Catching waves for someone who is not the strongest paddler (47y, 100 kg, relatively fit) with this board is a delight. If you paddle hard you can get early into the waves. You can also take off late; a couple of strokes and you glide down the steeper face – still easy to turn thanks to the rocker of the board. Changing directions in hip to chest high waves is super easy – just step on the breaks and the nose rises and you can cross back to the breaking part of the wave. And at head high, YOU CAN CARVE THE MONSTER!!! I regret having learned to surf in the 90’s on far too small boards but I am glad having found a spoon that keeps me in the game with a wave-count that makes the shortboard heroes disgruntled. TILL DEATH I WILL DO SURF – thank’s to Steve Walden 😉

Awesome board, I love it! I am 1..84m tall and 107kg heavy riding longboards around 80 litre. MegaMagic’s higher volume really helped me increase wave count without reducing in any way what the board can do once I caught the wave. Now remember it is also about shape not only volume, MegaMagic balances the two brilliantly. It paddles very fast, one factor must be the rail to bottom hard/sharp edge (and bottom concave and bevels), that also allows very fast trimming so you have enough speed to sacrifice some if you play with various fin setups; use two plus one and you can do vertical maneuvers, use a single fin and you have that log-y classic feeling – so the best from both worlds. So MegaMagic is brilliant from the tail turning like a 60 liter progressive longboard, that’s wow for me! The deck looks flat but the bottom rocker is there for a more comfortable paddling position or negotiate easier late takeoff-s or not at last have more control from the nose increasing nose-riding time because you don’t have to not cross-step back to reset the trimming line.
The rails are big hiding lots of volume and the rail bottom edge makes this board uncharacteristically fast, however at some point the rail could be unforgiving – if such rail catches by mistake it is hard to recover but it is less likely that’ll happen maybe on turbulent wash-y finishing sections where you should really pull out but yes I can very easy milk the wave to the sand on MegaMagic. The bottom rail hard edge continues around the nose so this board can spear through the incoming wash when you paddle out and you can even duck dive it if you are also strong not only heavy. However that nose edge can make the nose unforgiving reducing the nose lift during noseride I mean the nose can dip quickly and you need to cross-step fast to recover but again that’s on the limit of when one should really cross-step back to readjust trimming line; having said that I really like the amount of volume the nose carries and I have no problem nose riding the right sections. So I think it is a brilliant board and surfers that are aware and can adjust their surfing style to this board specific will see their surfing reaching the next level!
