Product Description

The 7S Double Down aims to increase your wave count and improve your small wave game. This is the flattest surfboard in the 7S range, and it has the highest volume per size ratio. For these reasons, it’s fast, has plenty of flow, and is the perfect weapon for fatter, sub-par conditions.

OUTLINE: The nose and tail dimensions at 12″ are the same, creating a larger sweet spot, and a more stable planning zone. The full nose further adds to the stability, and the ‘Corner Round’ tail allows the width to extend further back, while still achieving the smooth transitions between turns that a round tail is famous for.

ROCKER: With an emphasis on everyday conditions; flat equals flow, so the Double Down will slide into waves with ease, and maintain its speed over dead sections with minimal effort. Slight lift in the nose and tail will satisfy the more experienced rider looking for a summer groveller.

CONTOURS: Subtle yet effective, the slight concave up front creates lift when taking off, then a double concave starting in the mid zone leads into a shallow rolled vee off the tail. This bottom combination maintains exceptional speed in softer waves, yet provides a nice balance of control versus quick turning response when pivoting right off the tail.

PERFORMANCE: The Double Down is fast off the mark, and super easy to turn. Think summer beach breaks or soft point waves where you need a board with enough foam and buoyancy to get you going, but don’t want to restrict how you want to perform on a wave. We suggest riding this board will bigger side fins, and a smaller centre fin.

Construction Innegra Matrix

Created in collaboration with Colan Australia, Innegra Matrix (IM) is an exciting new material that’s exclusive to GSI and the 7S board range. IM consists of 3oz bi-axial fiberglass orientated at +/- 45 degrees, an Innegra cross-net woven through the fiberglass, plus 13 unidirectional carbon strands, all of which forms a single layer of fabric that’s laminated on the bottom of the board. The deck lay-up has a quad-axial configuration of fiberglass at +/- 45 degrees & standard 4oz fiberglass at 0/90 degrees. With this build, we also use a high density EPS core tha’s cut and finish shaped, and a special ultra bright epoxy resin. Overall this construction helps to control the boards torsional flex (twisting), while the carbon strands control the longitudinal flex. As a result, we still achieve that ‘pop’ and ‘lively’ feel from the EPS core, but with an underlying feeling of control and dampening that’s closer to a traditional PU board. Less chatter, more dampening = smoother through turns.

How well do you think this board would perform for kite surfing? I like the idea of having a board that I can use for surfing AND kiting

      • chrisdurlacher November 7, 2019

Hi Patrick, yes the 7S Double Down would work as a cross over, however the board has been designed for the requirements of traditional surfing.

Hey 7 surfboards I just would like to let u know I’m a 17 year old surfer from New Jersey in the US and I been surfing your double down for 2 years and I love it. It’s perfect for waves that need some more paddle power to get into cause if you didn’t know New Jersey doesn’t get the best waves in the summer so it’s perfect and I can pull of little slashes and turns in the face and even get the tail up here and there in the air. Just would like to say absolute love your boards and looking foward to more boards in the future.

This board ticks all the boxes. I’m 5’9” and 93kg, with a pretty good fitness level. Bought this board to ensure good paddle power and mobility. It really covers both domains. Very happy with purchase.

This is a really great board. Easy to ride and picks up waves easily.
The way the board is described by GSI is completely accurate in terms of functionality when surfing it.
Excellent in small or mushy waves and can make surfing shit conditions fun.

Received my board but didn’t tried it yet. I was wondering what fins should i buy? Should i buy Reactor in M size, Performer in S size or Accelerator? BTW i am 65 kg and i surf in waves that are most of the time a little mushy and 1-3ft high. Thank you for your futur answers!

Howdy – we recommend FCSII Accelerator PC Carbon Fins with this board.

Hi, what is the type of rating you recommend on the surfboard 7S Double Down – IM

        I have an intermediate level, I am 1m80 for 83 kg ..

What would be the appropriate volume for this board as I usually surf in 6’4 19 3/8 2 5/8 for years on mainly hollow waves.

        Thank you.

            Hey Francky,
Thanks for contacting us about this! For you it sounds like the 6’0 would be more than enough board. The Double Down lets you ride a shorter length because the volume is mainly made up from the added width and thickness of the board. Super fun in smaller softer waves and really comes to life in faster down the line waves : )

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions
